Letter from the President

Welcome Back Madison Newcomers!

Whether you are just joining our group, or you are returning for another year, we are so thrilled to have you! My name is Bryony Aviles and I will be continuing on for my second term as President of Madison Newcomers. Madison Newcomers is organized around our membership-wide monthly General Meetings, held at a local business, with time to sip and eat and chat with new friends, as well as learn about a group or organization that is doing work in our community. All group-wide issues are discussed at these meetings, and announcements for upcoming opportunities to be involved are also shared. Our yearly Kick-Off Meeting will be held in a couple of weeks on Wednesday, September 20th. See further details below. I am in my fourth year here in Madison, and I can honestly say that most of my social network I’ve connected to through Newcomers Club.

In addition to General Meetings, we have our theme-based Special Interest Groups (known as “SIGs”), such as Gourmet Club, Fitness Club, Ladies Night Out, Family Social, Book Club, among others, which are a great opportunity to meet in a smaller setting and get to know people with similar interests. Once you become a paying member of Madison Newcomers, you will start to receive Evites for all of the Special Interest Group gatherings! Finally, Madison Newcomers highlights our role in our community in a number of ways, including through collecting goods for local charitable organizations at our monthly meetings, volunteering at Bauer Park’s Fall Festival, and hosting community events like the Monster Bash at Halloween-time and Touch a Truck in the Spring. We have instituted a new ask of all members this year, upon joining or renewal of membership, to commit to 2 hours of service through Madison Newcomers over the course of the year. We don’t want this to feel overly burdensome, just a goal for membership commitment (we are not here to “enforce”, just to encourage!). There are a number of ways to work on these 2 hours, from volunteering your time at a Newcomers or Community event, to helping Newcomers with behind-the-scenes needs, or serving for a month as a drop off location for donation collection. We hope you will find this commitment from each other motivating and we know that we will make a big impact in the community.

Stay tuned to hear more about all that’s scheduled for the upcoming year - since we send out all invitations through evite, downloading the Evite App is a great decision that is to easy to use and helpful for keeping track of everything!

THANK YOU for joining Madison Newcomers and all that we work towards. We are thrilled to have you and look forward to a fun year ahead! PLEASE feel free to reach out to us through email or Facebook with any questions, and of course you can contact me directly!

Sincerely,

Bryony Aviles, President 2022-24
