The Madison Newcomers Club History and Organization
On March 13, 1968, with approximately 60 women present, the Newcomers Club of Madison
and Guilford was established. Mrs. Stanwood Dolph and Mrs. Paul Stoddard, the Welcome
Wagon Hostesses, were the original founders. The club grew rapidly during the first five
years, making it necessary for the group to divide into two separate clubs, one for Guilford
and one for Madison. On June 5, 1973, the Madison Newcomers Club was formed.
From 1973 to the present time, The Madison Newcomers Club has been a well-known social
and civic organization in the town of Madison, whose primary purpose is to provide a meeting
ground for new residents to town with the aim of helping the members become acquainted
with one another and to take an active role in the civic and social welfare of their community.
The opportunities to partake in the club’s activities are varied and plentiful, and made possible
through involvement in monthly meetings with interesting programs, special interest groups, a
number of committees as well as ongoing social activities. In order to ensure that the members
also become involved with the community at large, the club does focus efforts on civic projects
by volunteering time to community events and by organizing fund raisers in town in an effort
to raise money to donate to a variety of needs in and around Madison.
The Madison Newcomers club invites any woman who has moved to Madison at any time to join
our club. In 2005-2006, we consisted of 150 members and we continue to grow.
